Steve Palladino

Education Projects Manager

Steve Palladino is employed as NCGIA Education Projects Manager. He has served in this and other capacities for the Center for over four years. As the Education Projects Manager, he coordinates Geographic Information System (GIS) educational activities for educational environments from primary school through graduate studies and beyond. His main projects are the Secondary Education Project and the Community College Project. He is also working with Dr. Karen Kemp on the Core Curriculum and GIS Laboratory Exercise Revision Projects.

He received his Masters in Geography from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1994. He also earned a B.A. from UCSB in the double majors of Geography and Environmental Studies in 1985. In between these two degrees he spent four years teaching advanced math (Calculus, Pre-Calculus, Trigonometry, and Advanced Geometry) in a public high school in Los Angeles County. He has taught geography part time at Santa Barbara City College for the past three years.

His unpublished Masters Thesis titled "A Role for Geographic Information Systems in the Secondary Schools: An Assessment of the Current Status and Future Possibilities" is available on the NCGIA ftp site.

He has made many conference presentations on GIS education, has coordinated GIS education workshops and summer institutes, and serves on the following committees:

National Council for Geographic Education, Remote Sensing Education Task Force
