Steve Palladino was
employed as the Education Projects Manager for the National Center for Geographic
Information and Analysis (NCGIA) from april 1991 through February 1999.
Now he is a professor of Geography and Geographic Information Systems at Ventura
College in California.
As the Education Projects
Manager, he coordinated Geographic Information System (GIS) educational
activities for teachers and students from primary school through graduate
studies and beyond. The NCGIA is a National Science Foundation funded National
Research Center which does basic research in areas related to the theory
and development of GIS.
Palladino received his
Masters in Geography from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1994.
He also earned a B.A. from UCSB in the double majors of Geography and Environmental
Studies in 1985. In between these two degrees he completed his California Secondary
Education Teaching Credential and spent four years teaching advanced math (Calculus,
Pre-Calculus, Trigonometry, and Advanced Geometry) in a public high school in
Los Angeles County. During these years, he was active in course development
and curriculum writing as well as the contributing to the nationally acclaimed
"2+2+2 Articulation" program at Cerritos Community College. He taught geography
and GIS part-time at Santa Barbara City College for six years while working
at NCGIA. He also served as a consultant and instructor for Santa Barbara City
College in the development of its GIS Program.
