The converse question might be more surprising: What non-New England coastal Atlantic states are NOT partially drained by the Mississippi? New Jersey, Delaware, South Carolina, and Florida are the only ones.

POSTSCRIPT: Alert reader Chris Cole pointed out that Pennsylvania is not really a coastal state. I'm not sure if tidewater reaches up the Delaware River as far as the Keystone State or not, but regardless it doesn't belong on the list.
