Ok, ok, maybe the Botanical Garden trip wasn't exactly like that. First we bundled the kids into the carseats, Ashton squeezed in back there, and we all took off, brimming over with excitement for this latest adventure.

Well, not all of us could sustain our excitement. But we did like holding Ayley's hand! Eventually we reached the gardens and started exploring....

It didn't take long to find the bugs. Above, a grasshopper lurks above and behind Anastasia (right click on the photo to look at a bigger version). Below we inspect a mantis out in the meadow and a huge, Tolkien-esque spiderweb in a redwood grove. Ayley raced ahead and kept her Nana very busy trying to keep up! Signs like the one in the foreground of the mantis picture indicate pest-plant relationships.
