Special Mothers Day
Edition!!
Here are pictures we took from April 26-30 - still a Mothers Day special, since we didn't get 'em online until May! Nana was out to visit during this time, and Papa got back from his interview at Michigan State.
Ayley will always sit still for a good book, especially if she has a lot of bugs to hold. Jessa looks surprised in most of the pictures we took this week. You'd think she'd be getting used to the flash by now.... Hey, I look good in Spartan Green (and Spit-up Yellow)!
Anas with her girls at Isla Vista beach. No, she's not wearing a pinafore - that's a cloth hanging over Jessa's frontpack to keep the sun off. Ayley wore her Joe Cool sunglasses the whole time... though the pants came off pretty fast after this picture was taken.

The tide was low and we found some calm, warm water that was perfect for Ayley to play in. She found lots of shells and bugs before racing off down the beach with Nana in pursuit. She actually climbed the stairs to the clifftops before being pursuaded to return....
When she's not sleeping, eating, or fussing, Jessa hangs out on a very special piece of furniture....

The changing table! In the shots below she demonstrates many of her skills as a 3 week-old:

She can kick and get her finger in her mouth (if it gets hung up on her nose as it flashes by); she can stick her tongue out - her tongue's the body part most under her control at this stage...

... she can spit up! In this action sequence, she burps a little milk and then shows... glee? relief? more gas? ... the magic of the digital camera and the internet brings you this split-second slip in her inscrutable facade!

Jessa spends very little time in her crib, but when she's there she likes to admire the bugs ... as does Ayley! Big sister finds the bugs extremely fascinating. And she sees no reason to leave them stuck on that boring mobile with Jessa, who can't even play with them properly! That's part of the reason we all piled into the car to go on a bug safari to the Botanical Garden..
