This page includes qqplots comparing the elevation distribution of each original test DEM with the distribution of the lossily compressed DEMs. The matrix of plots matches that shown in the hierarchical error maps. Block RMSE tolerance increases as the column number increases, and quantization quality degrades (1, 2, 4, 8, 16) as the row number increases. Plots for methods with no minimum overlap (that is, blocks are decomposed into four non-overlapping sub-blocks) are first, followed by plots of DEMs with overlapping blocks specified (that is, blocks are decomposed into nine overlapping sub-blocks).
Variogram comparison plots are also listed for selected test DEMs. These follow the qqplots. They may be useful for determining the effect of compression on the spatial structure of the output.
