My research, much of which has been conducted in collaboration with Judy DeLoache, focuses on very young children's appreciation of spatial representations. In particular, I have examined the role that previous experience with an easy symbol-referent relation plays in facilitating an appreciation of more difficult symbolic relations (Marzolf & DeLoache, 1994). I have also examined young children's mental representation of spatial information, as well as how those representations affect their appreciation and use of spatial symbols (Marzolf, under review; Marzolf, DeLoache, & Kolstad, 1999).
