During the last few years researchers and
environment planners have carried on their preliminary studies, according
to a multidisciplinary approach. One of the main issue in this approach
is the sustainability of the economic development. As a matter
of fact it is recognized the importance of the study related to the distribution
and to the limits of natural resources; this can be accomplished easier
than before by the use of extremely powerful hardware and software.
The purpose of this contribution is to demonstrate the usefulness of an
integrated approach to planning of GIS and RS in a complex problems of
decision making. Many GIS applications are suited for remote sensing input
and the integration of the techniques are becoming accepted in the landscape
planning. By means of GIS and RS, environmental information will be integrated
with administrative, political, social and economic data. GIS, RS and fuzzy
analysis will be used to assist in environmental compatibility studies
and decision making. As a case of study, an area located in the center
part of Sardinia will be analyzed. This area is especially interesting
because of the presence of industrial and agricultural resources and infrastructures.
