At the conference, Jay Morgan of Towson
State University announced the completion of negotiations with his university
for support of the publication of a new quarterly newsletter to be known
as The GIS Educator. The purpose of the newsletter is to provide
a forum for the exchange of information on GIS education and training issues.
The audience for this newsletter will include: 1) community college and
university faculty who are either teaching about or teaching with geographic
information systems; 2) elementary and secondary teachers who are working
to implement GIS as a new teaching tool; and 3) personnel from government
agencies and businesses who are interested in educating and training their
staff about GIS. The inaugural issue, which will be distributed free
of charge to over 5700 universities and colleges and over 7500 elementary
and secondary schools, will be released in February 1998. If you
